Hakimu - The Judge

Description

Hakimu ("judge" in Swahili) is the son of Okubi and supposedly a lioness long forgotten to time.

A long, long time ago, when the earth was still young and the animals upon it even younger, there was a small pride of lions lead by two brothers. The older, stronger brother was the leader, and thus the only one allowed to mate with the females, while the younger, smaller brother was simply allowed to stay to help fight off competitors in exchange for shelter and food. The younger brother was fine with this exchange, however the older brother had often caught him eyeing his females from afar, though he never caught his brother mating with them, so he never threw him out.

Then one day, a young lion cub who's name has long since been forgotten was born to a lioness of the pride. When the leader came to inspect the cub, he saw that the cub look almost nothing like him and a lot like his brother. Rage over took him, and he demanded to know who the father of the cub was. The lioness insisted that it was him and not his brother, but the leader did not believe her. He pushed and pushed for the truth, even threatening to kill the cub if she did not tell him. Finally, the lioness did admit that she had indeed mated with his brother...but she also admited that she had mated with him the same day, so she had no idea who the cub's father truly was. Enraged, the leader went to kill the cub, but the lioness, finally having enough, stood up for her newborn, and the other lionesses of the pride helped her fight the leader back as many of them were new mothers as well. Unable to take his anger out on the cub, he instead turned it on his traitorous brother, chasing him out of his territory once and for all.

As the cub grew, the leader plotted and planned away for ways of getting rid of him, for deep in his heart he knew the cub could not be his. His pelt was too pale and his eyes gold like the sun, just like his hated brother's. And when his chance finally came, when the cub wandered too far away from his mother and the pride, the leader struck. He cornered the little cub, who wailed for his mother in terror, and quickly snapped the poor cub's neck with his powerful jaws.

For the first time in the young world's history, an animal was killed not for food or in self-defense, but in cold blood. The Great Spirit itself mourned this senseless loss, and using it's powers gave the small cub's spirit form once more, though he would forever be a shadow of what he once was.

Waking up next to his body next to a large white lion, the cub was frightened at first, but the Great Spirit quickly went to comfort the cub.

"Do not be afraid, young cub. You have suffered a great transgreation against yourself. But do not worry, for I have something in mind for both you and your sire."

"You do?" the cub asks in awe.

"Yes. For you, little one, I ask for you to be my Judge. Meet all those who's Circle finally ends, and when you do, Judge them by their deeds. Decide whether they deserve a place by my side in the night sky or if they should be punished for their wrong doings in life. And once you do, you will be the one to take their spirits to their final resting place."

"Why me?" the cub asks.

"Because, small one, you have suffered the greatest crime of all by the one who you should have trusted the most - a parent, your sire. You of all spirits, having suffered what you have, reserve the right to judge the sins of others."

"So he is my father? Mother told me she was never sure if he was my father or my uncle."

"Yes, my new Judge, I am afraid so. But do not worry. When the time comes, he will pay for his crimes, for I have a special place for him. And you shall be the one to deliver him there.....

Hakimu."

NOTES: So to start off spoopy month, let's start off with some TLK spirit legends, hm? This little guy here was adopted from :iconkreoko:. The orbs around him are spirits that he's guiding and he always has at least one hanging around him, though whether he's taking them to the Stars or somewhere else only he knows. :) As for Hakimu himself, the story above is just that - a story. Specifically one told by lions. There are different ones told by different species, as he appears as a young version of that species to them when he comes to guide them to the afterlife. So whether the above story is true, or whether another story is or whether it's some mixture, who knows. Only Hakimu does, and he doesn't plan on spilling the beans any time soon. ;)

The two forms above are what he appears as as a spirit, and the one below is his "living" form. He can take the "living" form when walking in the dreams of the living (as all spirits can), however, he rarely does this. Those who see this form the most are young children, especially young sickly children. Those who are close to dying or are very spiritual beings (like Rafiki) may also be able to see his spirit form, though the latter is rare.
