Description

The Pride Lands were warm and sunny today, with the herds mulling about as usual and the local pride lounging around in the shade of Pride Rock, waiting for the heat of the sun to cool off as it slowly made it's way across the sky. If not for the numerous hyena skulking about, one would think this was just another normal day. But there were no more normal days.

Not since Scar became King of the Pride Lands only a few months ago.

A young tan lioness delicately made her way down the slope, her paw steps sure as she headed towards her destination. Steadily, she made her way around the back of Pride Rock, where, waiting upon a low ledge was the King himself. Seeing the young lioness approach, he stood up from his perch, stretching lazily before making his way to the edge to peer down at her with his piercing green eyes.

"Well?" the King intoned once the lioness came to stop before him.

"I have much to report, King Scar." the young lioness stated, bowing exaggeratedly with a cheeky grin before him.

"Then get on with it, Inira. Don't waste my time." Scar said, glaring in annoyance at the adolescent's antics.

Inira merely smirked in response before giving her report.

"Well, for starters, the herds are very tense. Many of them are starting to think about moving now with so many hyenas around. If they leave, that means less food for all of us."

"Tsk. Cowards. We'll just expand our hunting grounds. The hyenas can help us take some from the Wild Lands; they have plenty to spare. Next."

"An emissary from your father's old kingdom is here. He wishes to speak to you, though about what he would not tell me. Sounded important though."

"I don't care what they have to say. I want nothing to do with anything of my father's, past or otherwise. Send him away. Anything else? Perhaps something that's actually worth my time?"

Inira chuckled at the sour lion's tone. She knew what he really wanted to hear - whether anyone suspected him of the murder of his own brother and nephew, and whether anyone planned on betraying him in the near future.

"Not much, I'm afraid. Just the matter of your younger brother, Awali." Inira said with a smirk.

The King stilled at this with a frown on his face. He studied the young lioness before him to see if she was pulling his leg or not; she has done so before, after all, if only to get a rise out of him. But alas, it seemed as though she wasn't trying to purposely provoke his ire this time, despite the irritating smirk on her face.

"All right, I'll bite. What about Awali?" Scar growled.

"He's been trying to seek an audience with you for some time." Inira stated, the smirk never leaving her face. "He's becoming quite persistant. You can't keep sending him away forever, you know."

Scar's jaw ticked. He knew that Inira was right, but at the same time he didn't want to confront his younger brother. He had been avoiding the lion for some time, ever since the death of Mufasa.

No. I've been avoiding him longer than that. Ever since I got rid of the rest of the Lion Guard.

He was still furious for Awali's part in the Guard's betrayal of him to Mufasa, yet when it came to getting rid of him, Scar found he could not finish the job. Awali was always different to him; perhaps it because they could always share the experience of being the "unneeded" son with each other, with Awali being even more so then Scar since he was adopted. Of course, Awali took that fact in stride better than Scar ever did, but that never did change that fact that they always had a special bond that they didn't share with their older brother.

"Well?" Inira asked, breaking into Scar's train of thought.

"Well, what?" Scar snapped.

"What do you want me to tell him?"

Scar paused, chewing on his lip as he thought about what to do. Then, after what seemed like eons, he finally responded.

"....Tell him....Tell him to meet me by the Great Gorge tomorrow at sunrise. I will talk with him then."

The Fall by ReddRedPanda
, showing what happened a few months after Scar took control of the Pride Lands. The drought is just starting (though no one knows it yet, and it won't take full effect until mid-way into his reign) and the herds are already not happy with Scar. I mean, you can't really blame them, what with the hyenas and all.

I'm guessing Awali is subject to an "accident" at the Gorge...
